Internship Programs

Select Italy currently offers two internship programs: The Select Italy Internship Program (SIIP) and the Select Italy Junior Professional Program (SIJPP). We hope that you will find in this section the answers to your questions as well as reason and motivation to apply: we’ll love to have you on our team!

Who is Select Italy?
Select Italy is a young, vibrant and growing company centered on Italy. Primarily a Tour Operator specializing in travel arrangements, the company is now expanding into Food with its new Food Delivery Service.

Located in downtown Chicago, and with offices in New York and Italy, Select Italy provides a challenging, fast-paced environment for interns to learn the travel industry. The office is multi-lingual and deals with Italy on a daily basis at multiple levels. Interns have the possibility of multiple departments to choose from, ranging from the technical to the operational. We use the latest technology to link and support our various departments and create a dynamic workplace where each member is allowed to (and expected to) take initiative and make a difference every day.

Where is Select Italy located?
Select Italy’s main offices are located in downtown Chicago, in the River North area. Our office is surrounded by numerous restaurants, art galleries, interior design stores and is a 10-minute walk from Michigan Avenue. The offices are on the 5th floor of a beautiful red brick historical building, one block away from the “L” station and with several parking lots in the neighborhood. This is the location where most internship positions are based.

The New York offices are located at the Bowery, across from the New Museum of Contemporary Art. The NYC office carries out several PR-related activities, marketing and events, including the successful Cooking Show with Chef Andrea Tiberi. Occasionally, also the NYC office welcomes interns.

In Italy, we ensure research activities as well as providing support and troubleshooting services to customers via a network of correspondents and a coordinating point based in Florence. No internship is offered in Italy at this stage.

The Select Italy Internship Program (SIIP)

Who can apply to the SIIP?
The SIIP is equally intended for domestic and international applicants. Most domestic applicants tend to be resident in the Chicago area, while most international are originating from Italy. In certain cases (for example with technology positions related with our web design and management requirements), we may consider and accept internships “remotely” with limited or no presence in our offices. This possibility is decided on a case-by-case basis but we welcome and consider applications for “remote internships.”

What are the areas of assignment?
The SIIP program is intended for those who can jump right in and quickly progress in learning the business and, for Italian interns, improving their English proficiency. Our interns take part in vital operations and participate in important projects. In addition, to customary office support (filing, faxing, etc...), interns will have a chance to work with the company’s managers on key tasks and get an inside look at how a modern travel agency is run and stays ahead of its competition. Although Select Italy is primarily a travel company, its strategy and structure create intern positions in multiple areas that cover Liberal Arts, Marketing & Communications and Technology (web and media).

We hope to learn from our interns as well. As we stay on top of the Italy travel scene from here in Chicago, we welcome ideas and contribution from motivated, well-traveled interns who are willing to share their experiences and insights to help us develop new products and introduce our clients to new travel experiences.

Depending on their qualifications, experience and inclinations, interns find their position in several departments and may be involved in a variety of tasks (by department).

Select Italy Junior Professional Program (SIJPP)

Who can apply to the SIJPP?
The Select Italy Junior Professional Program (SIJPP) is a program that follows and complements the Select Italy Internship Program (SIIP) and is offered to the best interns that have shown consistent and outstanding performance during their internship. There is no formal application for this program as interns are decided on a case by case basis.

The SIJPP purpose is to further extent the “mutual exchange” between the company and the intern, by creating a professional frame where the intern is offered the possibility to become a Junior Professional and further provide the services skills acquired during the internship, against monetary compensation.

The key components of SIJPP are the following:
  • Best performers will be offered to join the SIJPP for a minimum of 3 months. Best performers are chosen at sole SI discretion and offered the possibility to become Junior Professionals.
  • SIJPP is equally offered to domestic (legally resident in the US) and international (resident abroad) ex-interns.
  • The program can be offered part-time or full-time.
  • Depending on the nationality and country of residence of the candidate, the SIJPP may involve presence at one of the Select Italy offices in the US (Chicago or New York City) or a partial, or total, telecommuting professional relationship. In the latter cases, the Junior Professional will work from his/her home and it is indispensable for the candidate to have his/her own personal computer and broadband internet access.
  • In those cases where the professional relationship is remotely conducted, its management will be operated through a specific telecommuting interface that (remotely) regulates check in/check out times, activity monitoring and payments.
  • A minimum commitment of 20 hours/week is required from the Junior Professional in order to enter the program.
  • Compensation plans are implemented on a pay-per-performance basis. The compensation entry level varies depending on the tasks offered and is subject to monthly performance review. At the end of each month from the date of start, the work of the Junior Professional will be reviewed and upon the successful evaluation review the compensation may be increased incrementally.
  • A successful completion of the SIJPP constitutes grounds for full-time, full-benefit hiring at Select Italy.
